Saturday we had our first class on blogging with Denvy. Was a fun and interesting class. Seems there are many ideas about the importance of blogging in the tech age. I am most interested in blogging as it relates to students in the classroom. I would not like to see blogs replace newspapers, magazines, or journals. Is it too late? Have we already started down this path? I personally believe they can co-exist. Not everyone is a blogger or even enjoys reading print on a computer screen. I don't think we have replace one thing with another in order to call it advancement.

One thing that comes to mind for a classroom project is to have students read a blog and a newspaper column every day for a week. At the end of the week, they can talk/write about how the two were similar and how they were different. Then, the whole class could have an honest discussion and which they preferred, why they preferred it and how the other one could adapt to hold their interest. It won't solve the problem immediately, but it might offer some interesting ideas for educators to share with newspaper and magazine writers.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, loved your idea. I am going to "borrow" adapt it for a high school/middle school project (of course with parental consent).
